Allyssa Ghans, LCSW
Hi, my name is Allyssa Ghans, and it is a pleasure to meet you! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of New Jersey.
My work bridges psychological insight with practical problem solving. My approach draws from clinical practice, evidence-based and research-informed methods, and a focus on understanding people within the context of their lives and environments.
I work with individuals, professionals, and organizations to understand complex challenges and move toward clear, actionable solutions.
In our work together, I see you as the expert in your own story. I am here to support, guide, and problem-solve alongside you.
Whether you are here to explore, to book, or simply to be heard, I am here to listen.
About My Work
I approach my work as a clinician by paying close attention to identity, intersectionality, and lived experience, including how different parts of someone’s identity and environment interact and shape their experiences.
Whether I am working in therapy, consultation, or evaluations, my goal is the same: helping people make sense of complex situations and move through them with greater clarity.
-
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in New Jersey and the founder of LYSYN Collective.
As a neurodivergent Black woman, I move through the world with an awareness of how identity, environment, and systems shape people’s experiences. That perspective is not separate from my work. It is part of the lens I bring into every conversation.
I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from Radford University and my Master of Social Work from Seton Hall University, where I also engaged in social justice research. That background continues to influence how I understand people, culture, and institutions today.
I am especially interested in how power structures and lived experiences shape everyday life.
Outside of credentials and titles, I value:
curiosity
honesty
creativity
humor
Clients often describe me as:
direct
thoughtful
insightful about patterns
sometimes unexpectedly funny
I do not believe in pretending everything is fine when it is not.
I believe in understanding the truth of what someone is experiencing and working forward from there. -
My clinical approach is primarily humanistic and person-centered.
I believe people already have the capacity for growth when they are supported with the right environment, insight, and tools.
At the same time, I am not a passive clinician. I actively guide conversations, identify patterns, and challenge cognitive distortions when I see them.
When working with someone, I often pay close attention to:
emotional patterns
behavioral patterns
cognitive distortions
identity and intersectionality
the systems surrounding someone’s life
I enjoy complex conversations and layered problems.
Many situations people bring to therapy involve overlapping areas such as:
work environments
family dynamics
identity and culture
disability or neurodivergence
institutional barriers
My role is helping people untangle those layers and build practical systems that support their lives more effectively.
-
My work is informed by both clinical training and interdisciplinary perspectives.
My clinical training includes approaches such as:
Person-centered and humanistic therapy, which focuses on understanding your experience and creating a supportive space for growth
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which looks at how thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are connected
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which builds skills for managing emotions, relationships, and distress
I am a Certified Dialectical Behavior Therapy clinician.
I am also a Certified Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist, and neurodevelopmental conditions are a major focus of my work.
In addition to traditional therapy models, I integrate perspectives from:
disability justice frameworks
social determinants of health
trauma-informed care
systems thinking
My background in anthropology and social justice research also shapes how I understand behavior within cultural and institutional contexts.
-
I work primarily with individuals across different stages of life, including:
older children (around age 9 and up)
teenagers
adults
professionals navigating complex life transitions
Many of the people who find my work are navigating experiences such as:
neurodivergence (ADHD, autism, OCD)
trauma and PTSD
grief and loss
identity and intersectionality
disability-related experiences
institutional or systemic barriers
complex life or career decisions
While these are common areas I work within, I am not limited to any one type of concern or experience.
I am especially passionate about working with neurodivergent individuals and disability communities.
In addition to individual clinical work, I may also work with:
families navigating complex systems or disability-related concerns
organizations seeking consultation
-
Working with me is collaborative, direct, and practical.
I tend to notice patterns quickly and will point them out when they appear.
My goal is not just insight. It is meaningful change.
That often means people leave sessions with:
personalized strategies
reflections to consider
structured exercises or homework
practical tools they can apply immediately
Every person is different, so my approach is never identical from one client to the next.
I am not here to create dependency on therapy.
I am here to help you develop the clarity, confidence, and tools to navigate your life more effectively. -
I am currently completing insurance credentialing through Headway and expect to accept several major insurance plans soon, including:
Aetna
Blue Cross Blue Shield
Cigna
United Healthcare
Oxford
Until credentialing is finalized, services may be available on a self-pay basis.
Ways We Can Work Together
My work brings together clinical insight, systems thinking, and practical strategy.
-
I provide individual therapy for people seeking greater clarity, understanding, and movement in their lives.
My work focuses on helping individuals better understand:
themselves
their environments
the patterns shaping their experiences
My approach is humanistic and person-centered, informed by training in cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavioral therapies.
Sessions often explore how personal experiences, systems, and environments interact.
The goal is not only insight, but practical movement toward greater clarity, agency, and change.
-
